1.This post has really been very helpful as it gives a deep insight into the emotional burnout syndrome that often makes the employees suffer at their workplaces. American Psychologist Herbert Freudenberg has suggested that the overexposure of employees to stress, anxiety, and pressure causes this emotional burnout syndrome among employees.
Saying no to an excessive amount of pressure is a very helpful step for the employees. They must also try to take care of their physical well being. They must use methods like meditation, the practice of eating healthy and getting a daily exercise (American Thoracic Society. 2016).
I have faced this situation in the last month when there was immense pressure in my workplace. It was the peak season and we had to work overnight for several days at a stretch. I was not able to take up the stress and tension of my work organization. I went for counseling to a psychiatrist and he told me to take sufficient breaks, ample sleep, and a healthy diet and follow an exercise routine.
So I would suggest that the employees must know how to deal with the work stress. They will have to keep this in mind that stress is an inevitable part of professional life and they have to survive b dealing with the same
It is the duty of the employees to take care of the 3 factors that can cause this syndrome that is the personal, role and organizational factors as well.
An employee must take care of his personal well being by taking immense sleep and exercises. Working at a stretch will make them depressed and stressed. This will also help them overcome the classic burnout that is usually caused due to long hours of work, too much hectic paper work. They can overcome this situation by spending time with their close ones (James & Gilliland, 2017).
2.This post is very helpful for helping the crisis and intervention professionals. Emotional burnout syndrome is a very common aspect that they can suffer through (Cañadas et al., 2015). As a part o their profession they have to look after clients who are in some crisis. It is of utmost importance that the professionals are being empathetic towards the clients and helping them. In this course, they might get too much involved and can suffer through immense stress and depression (Lee, Stewart & Brown, 2008).
I was working as a crisis intervention and I served a flood affected area. The damage was so severe that I was feeling very disturbed when I assisted the victims and particularly the children. Though I was very empathetic towards them it was becoming a trouble for me. I could not concentrate on any other work and be getting very disturbed every single time I went to the flood-affected site. I was getting too emotional and this was having a bad impact on my mental and physical well being. I felt that all these were creating a negative impact on me and I had to deal with it somehow. So, I had to apply for shorter shifts so that I can some time out and look after my well being. I also took many classes and sessions that helped me to deal with this emotional burnout.
So, I would suggest that the crisis intervention organizations must take care of their employees and give them many sessions that would help them to maintain the distance between their clients and their personal lives. There will naturally be many positive and negative aspects in this work field so the employees have to somehow deal with these negative impacts.
Apart from this, there has to be a reduction in the extensive long working hours. The working hours must not be more than 40 hours per week. As soon as the crisis moment or the crisis moment has passed, the employees must take ample amount of break so that they can refresh their mind from the negative thoughts.
