Question:
Based on your ideas from Part A, make a recommendation on what you think is the best idea, and explain why you think so? Expand on the idea. Why weren’t other ideas considered?

Answer:
Improving the design of the portable radio
Portable radio have been in existed for some time and with technological innovation, they are on verge of becoming obsolete. In this regard, there is need to focus on some of the aspects that should be considered by manufactures to improve functionalities of portable radios (Ozyaprak, 2016). To facilitate quality innovative ideas, the SCAMPER technique becomes a substantial mechanism to use while igniting creativity on possible means of improving portable radios. The first aspect to consider is Substitution which bring out a clear idea on either substituting portable radio with something else that could perform exactly like portable radio. To make these devices align with technological innovation, manufacturer can do away with old radio buttons and introduce remote controlled radios (Moreno, Yang, Blessing & Wood, 2014). The next aspect is combining two or more ideas in a bid to come up with either a new radio or change entire working of the portable radio. In this case, with technology, there is no need of having many buttons to control portable radio. They can be merged in such a way that, one end increases volume as the other decreases volume. Thirdly, adapting to the current situation provides an opportunity to improve existing working conditions to align it with desirable conditions. Portable radio used to be huge making them somewhat heavy to walk around with. Technology has made it possible to make them much smaller by designing them to suite users’ need (Moreno & Yang, 2014).
Similarly, to make portable radios more relevant, it would have been important for manufacturers to modify some of the features such as speakers, battery and power consumption (Çelikler & Harman, 2015). Users would be happy with devices that consume less power in order to reduce cost of using them. There is need to make portable radios smaller but increase their efficient and effectiveness. Additionally, putting a product into another market use is an important aspect that radio manufacturers would consider. This can be achieved by making portable radio more than what it used to be some years back. Its design can factor in some functionalities such as clocks, Television and capability to play MP4 from a memory card. The next aspect would be eliminating unnecessary parts of the portable radio (Toraman & Altun, 2013). Early portable radios had very long antennae in order to track waves. At this age, there is no sense of having such parts and as a result can be eliminated by increasing radio waves sensitivity or using earphones to serve as antenna’s. Finally, the aspect of reversing processes can be used to improve portable radios by considering how MP3 used to be played. Earlier radios used to play music from radio cassettes which is opposite of today’s scenario. By keeping the same spirit of playing music, reverse engineering can be used accommodate SD cards and flash disks (Herring, Jones & Bailey, 2009). In this regard, it would possible to change the structure and working of early radios to modern requirements.
Best idea recommendation
To make portable radio more relevant, the aspect of putting portable radios in to other uses seems to be more suitable. This aspect advocates using of the same product in a more robust and dynamic manner in order to solve some other problems. By increasing functionalities of the same radio, it would be possible for manufacturers to shift radio into another markets. From the design and working of the early portable radios, structuring early radios to accommodate more advanced features such as clocks, Television screens, use of SD cards and flash disks makes more sense than other ideas. The same radio would be used but with more functionalities. This would make it more robust because users can use them without need wear watches as it provides an opportunity to listen, watch both MP3 and MP4 from within the same radio. Other ideas are of great importance as they result to new feature being added on the portable radio but putting in to other use is more suitable. The main reason why other aspects have not been considered more suitable is because they focus on single feature. Putting into other uses covers a mirage of activities by consolidating many working specifications into one idea of great value to the user. These other aspects do not consider on how to use the same product in many other ways and do not even add some extra working process into portable radio.
