Deliberate Practice Makes Perfect
Ricardo is an associate financial analyst in a large financial consulting firm. He works in the emerging markets division developing low cost products for the southeast Asia region. He was selected for this position because of his wide range of skills, relevant experience, and analytical abilities.
During his time at the firm he has worked on a variety of projects and has become well respected among his peers. He is satisfied with his job. And with his progress so far. But he strives to work more on challenging projects, wants to make a greater impact and seeks a leadership centered role. Ricardo has a strong drive and eventually hopes to get a position at the highest level of the organization.
In recent years the firm has remained stable but has struggled with growth. The recent economic downturn changed the financial landscape and is requiring new and innovative solutions to common issues such as reducing and calculating risk. As a result, the firm launched a companywide competition for the best risk assessment model in order to motivate all its employees. After several rounds, the top two finalists will be invited to present their ideas to CEO who will make final decision regarding the winner of the competition. The winning team will receive a substantial cash prize alongside significant prestige.
Ricardo sees this as a perfect chance to impress his colleagues and supervisors and establish as a top performer. He and his team had been working tirelessly on this project. Ricardo strong math and finance background help him come up with a comprehensive and complex algorithm that seems to be surprisingly effective in predicting risk. Each member contributes to different aspects and together they create a strong proposal that they believe is worthy of winning. Ricardo is excellent in motivating small team.You are Ricardo manager, and he comes to you for guidance, you believe he is one of the brightest. But need to overcome his fear of public speaking; he needs to develop presentation skills in order to win. Ricardo is committed to improvement but he does not understand the concept of deliberate practice and is unsure how to get the most value out of time he dedicates to improving his performance.
Based on the concept of deliberate practice, list the five steps that lead to excellence.
Provide Ricardo with specific recommendations on how he can “deliberately practice” his presentation skills and develop a tool to evaluate his improvement in the performance

In this report concept of deliberate practise is discussed and steps that drives this practise has been identified. Also some valuable suggestions for consistent practise to improve presentation skills and performance for Ricardo has been presented with focus on practical learning.  
The objective is to help Ricardo overcome fear of public speaking and support his development need for presentation skills so that he and his team could win the upcoming competition with committed improvement through practise. As Ricardo is one of the competent participants so helping him improve performance with understanding of deliberate practise concept is another objective to ensure he receives most value out of time he gives for improvement of his skills with sharp focus on expert driven performance outcomes.   
Based on the concept of deliberate practice, list the five steps that lead to excellence.
According to Edwards (2012) the concept of deliberate practise is based on the fact that in order to acquire and master any new skill or expertise it is essential to practise it and research conducted further reflects that quality of practise is as significant as quantity. As such deliberate practise is powerful concept to drive expert category performance outcomes with prime focus on practise as talent is not inborn but needs to be gained.
The five key steps that drives to excellence with concept of deliberate practise includes:

Approaching performance with aim of getting better and better:according to Tallott & Hilliard (2016) as talent is not inherent and practice makes all the distinctiveness between good and great so a deliberate intention to work hard and harder with time to become better in goals of performance creates an expert level performance.
Focus on repeated actions:as performance is simply consistent hard work so regular and repeated practise is required to drive better performance and achieve the best through practise of things (Collier 2016).  Repeated actions build habit, supports learning of cognitive oriented tasks and focuses to acquire information over long term gradually to build better learning and automatic learning exposure.
Divide goals in small tasks and build focus:creating small practise steps at regular interval and repeating those is better than working all day with less focus on skills. Effective approach to learn skills and moving them to memory needs breaking them into stepwise and repeating in small durations to reinstate quality over quantity with sustained practise efforts for long time.
Setting goals and building persistence: setting goals and combining with practise makes it powerful combination to build continued persistence to get better (Diane & Ardichvili 2015). Allowing time to practise low order skills under situation of relative convenience with rising level of challenges is significant and key approach to build continual improvement.  
Getting feedback on performance:as practise is significant and what is practised matters so getting timely feedback is essential as it helps to comprehend what is being done, why and how; thus lending scope to practise skills again and driving consistent learning over and over.  
Provide Ricardo with specific recommendations on how he can “deliberately practice” his presentation skills and develop a tool to evaluate his improvement in the performance

Ricardo can deliberately practise his presentation skills by consistently getting to his ultimate goal with regular approach to practising skills of presentation. It is recommended Ricardo first starts preparing through identification of goals and structure them into small multiple steps and learns to practise repeatedly and not to memorise. Also rehearsing presentation in front of mirror or family helps to eventually build habit of public speaking driving hesitation out and reinforcing confidence (Gherardi 2015). Also proper sense of timing needs and getting into relaxing mode before public presentation needs to be learnt through practise and consistent improvement process.  
In order to evaluate improvement in his performance of learning presentation skills Ricardo needs to prepare presentation, rehearse and then deliver that in front of family first and then amonsgt profesional co-workers or senior mentors to get their feedback; meaaure performance accurately and work on suggestion accordingly to add better value and improvement as per need.
Thus it can be inferred that as presentation skills are as significant as information that is presented so preparing for it and refining public speaking abilities with confidence and successful pitch makes a remarkable difference. Further any skills including presentation skills can be mastered with consistent and deliberate practise concept that drives best of results to reach to desired goals, hence it is one of the best learning method for sustained long time efforts.
