Provide an analysis as to how this part of the project fulfills the mission and 1 or more goals of the case study organization.
Answer:
Telecommunication has been identified as means of communication over large distances. A telecommunication plan has been tipped to provide productivity, customer service, and also improve on the efficiency.
A good telecommunication plan will assist a business to increase its productivity, efficiency as well as the services offered to the customers. This can only be afforded by the company only if the employees are provided with suitable tools for communication (Balakrishnan, 1991).
Goals and objectives of telecommunications plan:
To start with, the telecommunication plan should ensure maximum connectivity to the company in order to maintain the smooth running of operations. This is to be possible if it provides internet availability as the demand increases and as well maintain many circuit connections with diverse routes with the internet. The second objective is that the telecommunication plan should develop and implement recent communication methodologies as the need arises. This is visible when wireless local area networks to all the departments in the company are provided. It’s also possible when the Ethernet hubs and switches are upgraded (King, 2010).
A good telecommunication plan should maintain an increased level of security to the network in order to prevent unauthorized access and denial of service. This can only be possible if the companies install firewalls to reduce the exposure of being hacked, when a written network security and access policy is developed, scan data network in order to find out the systems and services that can pose problems concerning security, and finally maintain an updated cable plant database that keeps track of every device connected to the network (Clímaco, 2005).
Another objective is that the telecommunication plan should provide authentication and digital certificate services to enable staff of the company to access data and related information online. This is only achieved if a public key infrastructure which provides access to digital certificates. The plan strategy should also keep the staff up to date with the new technologies and the standards of the company. This will help the staff familiarize more with these technologies and also help them gain an understanding of their functionality (Mansell, 1992).
Advantages of sharing hardware and software resources used in telecommunication.
One of the most important merits of telecommunications is resource sharing. By this we mean that data that resides in computers, information or even hardware resources such as printers or modems can be remotely accessed maybe through an intranet or even a local area network (Yu, 2011). There are some of the advantages of resource sharing as to be used in telecommunications. To start with information that can be in form of messages are transferred quickly from one point to the other on a network. These messages can have attachments such as pictures, data, or even sounds.
The other advantage is that hardware devices such as printers that are too expensive to purchase for every computer in the business can be shared by all other computers. This reduces on costs that the business might incur in buying the printers. The installation process will also be minimized since we are installing only one printer and printing drivers soft wares and connecting it to multiple computers through the use of IP addresses therefore reducing time wasted (Wu, 2004).
The third advantage is that data that is to be used on the network is the same therefore avoiding problems whereby we may be having some users having older information than the others. This results into increased interaction and cooperation between staff working on the same thing. It enables the company to better manage the resources such that only the right software will be installed in the hardware such as antiviruses as well as devices drivers to be installed in every machine. This will prevent the spreading of malicious codes that may affect the entire connections in the company.
How the telecommunication plan achieves the mission and goals of the organization:
First of all the telecommunication plan achieves a unified communication strategy whereby all the forms of communication are carried out through the same network. This common network channel will be used by the employees to have an access to messages from phones, text messages, instant messaging or email rather than when they search from multiple sources. The second advantage is that, flexibility will be increased when the telecommunication plan is extended to workers based at their homes or who work in other offices away from the business. The remote employees will have an access to the company telecommunication network through secure connections and can work with the same communication facilities as office workers.
Thirdly, through a good telecommunication plan, the quality of customer service will be improved. By the use of call center telecommunication solutions, customer service specialists may join together and share the workload if the amount of incoming sales or service inquiries is in great quantity for individual employees to deal with efficiently. Customers are also placed in queues and are transferred to the right specialists through the aid of call centers.
Another benefit is that collaboration will be enhanced when the telecommunication plan is integrated with the information technology strategy that is put in place by the company. Voice conferencing or video conferencing can be used by project teams in order to achieve collaboration over the same network. Lastly a good telecommunication plan should also cater for those employees who, on a regular basis work away from their offices, that is, staff such as sales representatives, managers or even service engineers. It is very important if the named staff keeps in touch with their offices and exchange information with other staff in the company.
Telecommunications will help firms to reach more customers while as well consuming less resources and manpower. Business can get connected worldwide through the use of technologies such as video conferencing, telephony, web and internet based communications and data transmissions thus making advertising itself to a large pool of potential customers and partners. It can also market its products through social network marketing as well as online advertising which will expose the products of the company to a large audience.
