Are reducing discrimination and protecting safety mutually exclusive goals?

Reducing the discrimination from the world and also by ensuring safety is the primary concern in the recent years. According to (Olson 240), discrimination is the biggest issue within the world and it creates huge disturbance amongst the people within the world. Instilling safety along with reducing discrimination is the need of the hour. The fact that the world is full of threats and discrimination thus how people interact and get along in a multi cultural environment is vital. From the book of “The Gift of Fear” by Gavin de Becker, it can be seen that the true fear is a gift for the people. The book also provides the view that unwarranted fear is the curse for the people. Another writing “The black man and Public Space” by Brent Staples provides a view on the discrimination of the blacks African-American from whites that has been prevalent way too long in the society. The purpose of this essay is to provide knowledge to effectively reduce discrimination and establish a sense safety and security. The argument will be provided on both the factors.
People in the present day are surrounded with various kind of threats and unknown thing that increase their fear which can be avoided with help of trust or instinct action. It can be argued from the view of (De Becker 10-200), that the true fear is a gift for the people. The book provides the facts that people become more conscious and active when they are in any kind of fear. When the person feel some kind of threat, feat automatically generate within them and that leads to the creation of instinct behavior which is a gift in human being. In the words of (Banda, and Masengwe 1-10), people can get fear from anything such as discrimination of people which might lead to serious consequences. Protecting safety is essential for the people to maintain their dignity and their position within the world. It can be seen that people generally fear to perform various task that is related to their safety and for that, in most of the cases they face a different kind of threats. By reading the book “Black man and Public spac”, it can be seen that people discriminate against each other especially due to fear. It creates a huge contrast where Gavin de Becker provides that fear is the gift and is good for people and at the same time Brent Staples says that discrimination within the people occur due to fear.
People consider the black man as the biggest threat for the humankind because their skin color is black and also people have a judgmental that black color people are the criminal. According to (Proscia 291), discrimination and protecting safety are two different things, and they have a different value on people who create huge contrast. Reducing discrimination from the world does not led to the safe of human being in the world. The threat can occur to human being from any part of the world and this the final truth of life that fear is the basic element of people. From the view of (Dawson 1-14), it is clear that reducing the discrimination allow the people to stay connected and also help them to fight against all the threats. It can be seen that people fear many things which cannot be controlled, but some threats that could be controlled by reducing discrimination among the people. For example; a white man after reducing their bias against the black man allow them to fight the terrorism and other threats to the human being. Reducing discrimination might not help in protecting the safety, but it is also essential to maintain the value of people in the world.
In “The Gift of Fear” author shatters the myth that most of the violent act is unpredictable and also in that he provides various ways that will help the people to protect them and their loved ones. In this one of the biggest thing is to reduce the discrimination from the world as numerous violence is created due to this discrimination. According to (Taylor 1), people get alert due to their fear, and this is the most important thing to protect safety. From the reading of “The black man and public Space” it can be seen that one night Staples was walking on the road and he encountered white women. In the instant of fear, the white women walk faster from Staples to avoid him. This is the gift of fear that people can protect their safety, but in this case, it can be seen that this also might be due to discrimination of black people and white people. In the words of (Staples 2-32), people fear many things, but it is the fear that makes them alert to anything which might happen to them.
Reducing discrimination allow the people to trust each other, but in most of the cases, it can be seen that trust is huge reason for fear and also it create threat for the human being. According to (Ray 42-57), reducing discrimination helps the people to share their feeling and their trust with each other. Both the reduction of discrimination as well as protecting safety are vital for the people to live their life but it depends on the people and their activity to maintain their safety in the world. Sometimes discrimination is essential to protect the safety of the people. It can be seen that both have vital space in the life of people and they need to decide as to which they need to maintain. It is concluded from the essay that people in their fear became highly alert, and for that, in most of the cases, they start to discriminate the people. In the reverse action also it can be seen that high discrimination create the threat of violence in the world. Both the case is controversial, and both of them need effective understanding to deal with the various facts.
