As a software developer, you are required to develop programs that can be readily accessed by a wide range of clients.
Discuss ways in which you can design your software and applications for 2 of the following:

Blind or visually impaired clients
Clients with limited or poor hand coordination
Learning programs for children recovering from trauma
Clients who are colour blind
Clients who are hearing impaired

We have been looking at concepts of Green ICT this week.
Discuss 3 ways in which you (or your organisation), can use ICT to reduce your carbon footprint, and contribute to Green ICT.
Which of the following are projects, and which are processes? Explain your answer

Building a computer, on a production line of identical computers
Building a house, as one of a series of identical houses all over Australia
Upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10
Upgrading all 120 computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10

It has been seen that the visually impaired and blind people are working almost every virtual sector. In the  recent survey it has been noticed that the number of  people having the color blindness is also increasing in a sharp rate (Voykinska et al. 2016). In this case, the mobile application which is compatible for the use  of the visually impaired people and the color blind people is important as this will help them to take the advantage of the advanced technology more easily.
Mobile application for the use of the blind and visually impaired clients and people:
The designing of the software in the mobile application for the blind or the visually impaired people should contain minimum specifications (Krainz et al. 2016). In this case the two different approaches can be implemented. In the first case, if the app is made for the people with the low vision can have the application which has the instruction written in the larger font. In this case the application developer should understand the adjusted and font size applicable for the people with the low vision.
On the other hand the people the blind people can use the mobile application which has instructions provided in other ways. Some cases, voice over feature is available in some of the mobile application. In this feature, the instruction is given through the automatic generated voice instructions. People who are blind or visually impaired can follow the instructions and can access all the features of the application. In this case, the software developer should give stress on the implementation of the instruction through the voice over and put minimum buttons for using the application (Picinali et al. 2014). The software developer can implement the system through which the users can give the instruction  through the voice over. The implementation of the low vision control will allow the blind users to navigate through the contact lists and list of phone calls. The level of the charge in the battery of the system or the mobile application can be informed to the users through the text to speech system. The GPS location implemented in the system will help the users to track the location and retrieve the information about locations.
Mobile application for the people who are color blind:
Color blindness is also referred as color deficiency. Some of the software is available for helping the color blind people to use of the different software applications in an effective manner (Ruminski 2015). Software developers can use and adjust the brightness of the display and can adjust the saturation of the color in an effective way so that the display  of the system can be sustainable for the people who are color blind. Apart from that the system developer can implement the system in such a way that can have the naming feature of the colors at the tip of the cursor. The users can also zoom the picture through the control of the mouse if it is required.
There are other solutions which has been provided by other members in the group regarding the solution which enables the participation of the blind and the color blind people in the virtual word. However, almost all the solutions are similar to the solutions discussed above.
The use of ICT can be beneficial for reducing the carbon footprint or mitigation of the ways for the carbon emission. There are several was to reduce the emission of the carbon in order to reduce the carbon footprint.  Three ways have been discussed where the mitigation of the carbon footprint  through ICT.
Turning off the PC’s when they are not in use: When the systems are not in the use the PCs are needed to be turned off. This will help to reduce the power consumption which will lead to the mitigation of the carbon emission.
Using devices and sustainable to the environment: Using devices which are sustainable to the environment can help to reduce the carbon emission. In this case certain example can be given. The use of laptop is more effective than the use of desktop (Klimova et al. 2016). However, laptops are expensive and on the other hand the desktops can be replace effectively. In this case the usage of the desktop supports the reduction of the carbon emission.
Proper management of e-garbage: The waste produced from the scrapped electronic devices are known as e-garbage (Anthony and Majid 2016). E-garage has negative effect on the sustainability of the environment and in case if these wastes are not processed in a proper way there is a chance that  emission of carbon in the environment can be increased. In this case proper management of the e-waste is needed to be done.
The other members of the group suggested different solutions like mitigation of the use of  screen saver and the use of the advanced system to reduce the carbon foot print.

Building a computer, on a production line of identical computers: It is a project.
Building a house, as one of a series of identical houses all over Australia: It is a project.
Upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10: It is a process.
Upgrading all 120 computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10: It is a process.
