Question:

Answer the following theory questions:
1. Define what is meant by the term ‘team’ as it relates to the organisational setting.
2. What are the stages of team development, and what are the implications for the effective management of teams in an organisational setting?

Answer:

1).
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to an ethical strategy and it is integrated into the business model so that it can be successful. The CSR of a business goes beyond the regulatory requirement and a firm engages itself with actions that can contribute to the social good. It is indicative of a management concept by taking recourse to which a firm integrates environmental along with social concern within the operations of a business. CSR can help a company in balancing the economic, environmental along with the social imperatives. I think that it is important that a business should be socially responsible as it can help in empowering women, help environment and end the poverty in the world. The social issues can be at the local or at the national level and concern for well-being of other people can be said to be commendable. In the event of a business being socially responsible, the image of the company is bolstered in front of the public. It helps in the projection of a positive image that can help in making a company financially profitable. There are company like XEROX that has been able to grow successful owing to the CSR initiatives taken by the company. The initiatives have helped them in being named within the “100 Best Corporate Citizens List”. The projects called Green World Alliance and Electronic Industry Citizen Coalition has made the company immensely popular among the public. The founder of TOMS shoes witnessed the hardships of the children of Argentina who could not afford shoes. They gave 60 million shoes to the children that helped in addressing the challenge that was faced by community.
2).
There are four alternative views pertaining to ethical behaviour. They are utilitarian view, individualism view, moral right view and justice view. The utilitarian view lays emphasis on the impact that a decision can have on other people. It discusses whether a decision can be of good for a large number of people. Utilitarianism can be said to be normative ethical theory that stresses on the outcome pertaining to choosing of a policy over that of other policies. The individualist view lays stress on the fact that how behaviour can encourage the long term self-interest of an individual. The moral right view of the ethics elaborates on the fact whether a behaviour is within the ambit of human rights act. It lays stress on the fact that privacy of an employee should be respected. The moral right approach conceives that human beings have got fundamental rights and an ethically direct decision can help in maintaining right of the affected people. The moral rights approach lays stress on free consent, privacy, freedom of conscience and free speech. It states that the fundamental rights should not be violated that can help in the creation of an organization that is just. The justice view in relation to ethics discusses about the fairness of a behaviour. It revolves around the fact whether a decision shows fairness and is impartial. Legal rules come into the purview of justice view in relation to ethics. It stress on the fact that people should not be treated differently based on race, religion or that of gender. It harps on the fact that everyone should be treated equally in an organization.
