The scientific method is the basis for effective problem solving not only in academic research but also in everyday life.  By having a strong grasp of the scientific method, not only can you approach problem solving in a rational way, but you can also interpret the usefulness of existing research on a specific topic.  This assignment will give you the opportunity to develop your skills in interpreting scientific literature for the purpose of better understanding scientific method and the application of published research in your future coursework and profession.
For this assignment you will be required to select two primary research articles published in a peer-reviewed journal in the last 12 months.  The articles must involve research related to human physiology.  For each article you will complete the form provided which will summarize the following in less then two pages:

A statement of the research question being explored in the study.
The study’s hypothesis including the basis for establishing the hypothesis chosen
The study’s independent and dependent variables
 A summary of the results
Major conclusions that can be made from the results
What new research questions came out of the study’s findings?
The publication properly referenced at the end of your paper.

¨Each article must be approved by the instructor. Bring the article or abstract to class.    You must have one article approved by September 24 in class. The article must be printed and the instructor will sign off on it. You must include it in your submission.
¨Do not use any quotations in your summary.  Use your own words.
¨The paper will be no more than two pages double-spaced.
¨Do not right as an essay, use the subheadings provided.
¨You will submit the summary online in the assignment drop box and in paper format with the printed reference in class

Research Question:
Is individual’s diet affected its body composition, average behavior and within-individual variability in behavior and body weight?
In the study, Han and Dingemanse (2017), the researchers hypothesized that high carbohydrate diet is associated with the behavior of the individual’s behavior considering juvenile and adults and how it is varied within individuals. The rationale behind this hypothesis is that accumulated evidence showed the nutritional history of the individual shapes the behavior which is sex-specific and varies within different creatures if the high-quality diet was consumed by the individuals. The evidence showed that poor nutritional behavior can impair behaviorally development and it provides later cues to the expression of the later behavior. Behavioral stability also differs between individuals.
Independent Variables:
In the study, Han and Dingemanse (2017), the independent variables that have been assessed by researchers are nutritional histories such as high carbohydrate diet and high protein diet.
Dependent variables:
In the study, Han and Dingemanse (2017), dependent variables that have been assessed by researchers are three component of behavior such as average level of behavior which varies amongst individuals, the extent of individual behavior and stability of the behavior
Results Summary:
In the study, Han and Dingemanse (2017), both juveniles and adults were manipulated for factorial designs for their each life stage. The researchers measured the multiple behavioral expression and the experiments showed that dietary history affected both average phenotypic and individual behaviors. The experiment also exhibited that males who intake high protein diets as juveniles are more aggressive, more active during mating period and they have higher body weight compared to the males who consumed high carbohydrate diet during their juvenile period. on a different note, females preferred high protein diet compared to males which further indicate that dietary history influenced the average phenotypes and sex-specific manner. Males who consumed high protein diet are less stable in their behavior and it is only specific for the male.
Han and Dingemanse (2017),  concluded that dietary history explained both heterogenous residual within individual variance and it also influenced these components of behavior such as this behavioral stability of the individual and the extent of individual behavior. The study showed that dietary effects are trait specific. The study also differs in between the creatures it is sex-specific since the dietary history influences man compared to female.
New Research questions:
What is the role of diet in the evolution of repeatedly expressed traits, such as behavior and body weight?
Han, C. S., & Dingemanse, N. J. You are what you eat: diet shapes body composition, personality and behavioural stability. BMC evolutionary biology.  20
